WHS shows its PRIDE at state finals, earns superior

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington High School Marching Band ended its season on a high note, receiving a “superior” rating Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Ohio Music Education Association State Finals Band Competition at the University of Dayton Welcome Stadium.

The 91-member band competed in the Class A division with its repertoire of Dvorak Symphony No 9, Music of the Night, and Lightning Field.

The performance was led by drum majors Matthew Keiter and Caleb Beck and featured solo performances by Corey Wolfe on the flugelhorn, Allie Garnai of the guard, and Erin Stroebel, McKinley Law, Dessa Robertson, and Olivia Minney of the saxophone quartet.

This year’s performance marks the Wilmington High Marching Band’s 24th appearance at state finals since 1981.

The marching band is under the direction of Matthew Spradlin and assistant directors Cyndi Abbott, Brandi Adams, Ryan Bouts, Eric Juengel, Meg Moore, Jacob Rhodes, Robin Spradlin, and Terry Staten.
