WHS tennis opens with 3-2 win over Sidney

The Wilmington High School tennis team opened its season Friday with a 3-2 win over Sidney in the state team tennis tournament on the WHS courts.

“This was a good team win,” WHS head coach Steve Reed said. “Our singles players showed some nerves but settled down as the match went on.”

Reed said Wilmington will play at St. Xavier in the second round of the tournament but a date has not yet been set for that match. WHS will play at Hillsboro 4 p.m. Thursday in its South Central Ohio League opener.

Wilmington swept both doubles matches with Drew Moyer and Jack Romer winning at first doubles and Daniel Andrews and Jalen Douglas winning easily at second doubles.

“Doubles applied great pressure all match long on the Sidney players,” Reed said.
