Massie explodes with 12 late, beats Blan 15-4

BLANCHESTER — Clinton-Massie exploded for 12 runs in the final two innings Thursday and defeated Blanchester 15-4 in a non-league baseball game at Bott Field on the BHS campus.

Massie led 3-1 going to the sixth inning but then took advantage of several BHS errors to score five unearned runs in the sixth and another six runs in the seventh.

“Another game we lost our focus late,” BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. “I have no idea how it can be 3-1 in the sixth and then let it get out of hand like we did. It’s got to be lack of focus.”

While the errors came first, Lawson said, those only begin the ball rolling down hill on the Wildcats.

“Defensively we are not helping ourselves out by not being able to make the routine play,” said Lawson. “We do not deserve to win committing five errors. Then our pitchers feel like they need to be extra fine and strike everyone out. Then the walks start to build up. The bottom line is we are only going to be as good as our pitching and defense will take us. Something needs to change fast.”

Clinton-Massie goes to 10-2 with the win while Blanchester falls to 5-4.

Max Murray remained hot at the plate with three hits and two runs batted in. Weston Trampler had two hits and knocked in a pair. Aric France had two RBI and Noah Greathouse and Zach Dillow had two hits each.

Dylan Fawley had two hits for BHS. Jacob Goodin knocked in two runs and Gavin Creighton led the ’Cats with three stolen bases.

AJ Perkins pitched 6 2/3 innings of relief ball to get the win on the mound for Massie.
