NEW CONCORD — The Wilmington College women’s track and field team finished eighth Saturday at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship met at Muskingum University.

“I’m really proud of the way our team hung in there,” WC head coach Ron Combs said. “We had some adversity in the prelims on Friday and then had to deal with the weather delay and issues (Saturday). I thought our athletes took advantage of the opportunities we had in (Saturday’s) events. They battled hard all weekend long and I’m really proud of the efforts they gave.”

For the majority of the team, this meet marked the conclusion of the season. Those that are close to qualifying for NCAA DIII Outdoor Championship will continue on to the Great Lakes Regional meet at Ohio Wesleyan University May 18.

Lauren Stacy, from Western Brown High School, was third in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.2 meters. She also was third in the discus at 47.2 meters.

In the triple jump, Cierra Johnson snagged a third-place spot on the podium with her jump of 11 meters.

Emma Burke was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a run of 15.52 seconds.

The team of Johnson, Brooklyn Payne, Ashley Lovett (Washington Senior grad) and Angela Dorsett finished eighth in the 4×100-meter relay in a seasonal best time of 51.57 seconds.

The 4×400-meter relay team of Burke, Lovett, Kacey Burns, and Cheyenne Rhodes (Blanchester HS grad) clocked a season’s best 4:17.94 and finished eighth in the race.
