RIGHT NOW I LIKE

Our front 7 on defense. They did a great job in our Anderson scrimmage of controlling the line of scrimmage and making the quarterback uncomfortable. The defense has shown a great improvement in their pursuit of the football. Coach Filli and his staff have done a great job of getting these guys to understand how important it is to run to the ball on every play and improve their tackling.

Offensively, I was most happy that we didn’t turn the ball over at all on offense in our scrimmage. Wilmington has averaged nearly 3 turnovers a game over the past 5 years. We had great balance in our run game and short passing game.

WE STILL NEED TO IMPROVE ON

Alignments and assignments!! The first thing that can get you beat on Saturday’s is not knowing where to align or what your specific responsibility is on every snap. Both sides of the ball are learning new schemes and we are mixing in a lot of freshman into the Two-Deep. Our football IQ has to improve if we are going to be competitive. A lot of that comes with reps. Our coaches are trying to learn our personnel and adjust our schemes to fit what the players can do and learn in a short amount of time.

Our kicking game also needs to show dramatic improvement over what they have shown in years past. We cannot afford to give away points and/or possessions with our special teams units.
