The East Clinton boys bowling team won its first match of the season Wednesday over Williamsburg at Royal Z Lanes.

Coach Joe Davis said Williamsburg won the first meeting of the season by 237 pins. On Wednesday, East Clinton had 1,712 compared to Williamsburg’s 1,658. In the first meeting, the Astros had just 1,367.

The East Clinton girls have won two matches this season. Against Williamsburg, Myah Jones had games of 136 and 141. As a team, EC has just four girls and must compete against teams with five bowlers.

“Our team is improving,” coach Joe Davis said. “We bowled this higher series after learning we lost one of our top bowlers for the year.”

Branden Norris had a season-best single game of 189. Brendon Walters had a 181 game and Freddy Morgan had a 141, which tied for his season best.

“We are a new team and cannot match up with schools who have had bowling for some time but we are holding our own with other new teams and are progressing in the right direction,” Davis said. “I think our bowlers will continue to improve their scores and knowledge of the game.”
