Crager walk-off completes WC sweep of Capital

WILMINGTON – Megan Crager’s walk-off single in the second game gave the Wilmington College softball team a sweep of Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader Tuesday.

The Fightin’ Quakers won game one 9-7 and took game two 7-6.

In game one, Wilmington trailed 4-2 then plated five unanswered runs to gain a 7-4 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. Capital tied the game at 7-7 but Wilmington sealed the win with two runs in the sixth.

Grace Shell scattered 10 hits and two walks to pick up the pitching victory.

Alecia Kemp, Mariyah Burkhardt, KenDahl Bowles, Sawyer Hooper and Crager had two hits each for WC.

In game two, Capital led 4-0 but Wilmington went up 6-4 going to the sixth inning. After the Crusaders tied the game at 6-6, Wilmington grabbed the win on Crager’s seventh inning single.

Beth Persicano had three strikeouts and a walk, while surrendering 13 hits.

Crager, Bowles, Kemp and Ali Dixon had two hits each for WC. Crager drove in three teammates while Kemp had two RBI.

“We played really solid all-around with a well-rounded offensive performance from our entire lineup,” WC coach Beth Floyd said. “I’m extemely pleased with how we played in all aspects of the game – pitching, hitting and defense.”

Wilmington improves to 11-13 overall and 4-10 in the OAC. Capital falls to 6-24 overall and 2-10 in the OAC.

The Quakers will face the University of Mount Union at home for an OAC doubleheader 1 p.m. Saturday.
