The Wilmington fourth grade football team defeated the Kettering Firebirds 20-7 at Vandalia Butler High School and won the Western Ohio Junior Football Conference tournament championship. Mikey Brown scored a first half touchdown but Wilmington trailed 7-6 at halftime. After the Wilmington defense stopped Kettering to the start the second half, Owen Withers put the young Hurricane on top with a touchdown in the third quarter. The scoring drive took 5:39. In the fourth quarter, Wilmington’s defense forced a Kettering fumble and the Hurricane cashed it in four plays later when Brown scored his second TD of the night. “It was a total team win,” said coach Travis Mellinger. “Every kid played their heart out and it paid off.”
