BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester boys basketball team lost its season opener Friday night to Southeastern 71-36 at the old BHS gym.

Evan Malott had eight points to lead Blanchester.

Southeastern held a 20-13 lead after one. Malott hit on a couple of three-pointers in the opening frame for the Wildcats but Ayden Robinson and Ty Northrop had six points each to pace SHS.

In the second, Blanchester was held without a field goal. The Wildcats had 10 free throw attempts, two by five different players, and made just four of them. Southeastern struggled as well, making two of five in the second and 6 of 11 in the game.

At the half, it was 38-17 Southeastern as the Trojans got six from Gehrig Cordial in the quarter.

In the third, BHS made all three from the stripe, in fact, it was 5-for-5 at the line in the second half.

But it wasn’t nearly enough as Southeastern steadily pulled out to a 35-point win.

Robinson had 18 points and Cordial added 13 to lead five Southeastern players in double figure scoring.
