ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Waynesville defeated Clinton-Massie 61-52 in the season opener Friday night at Brian P. Mudd Court.

Cale Wilson led Clinton-Massie with 12 points.

The Falcons struggled offensively in the first half, scoring just 19 points. Ryan Dillion had two three-pointers in the first quarter and Gabe Muterspaw added four points but it was WHS on top 19-12.

At the half, Clinton-Massie had dug itself a 34-19 hole. To note, Massie attempted just two free throws in the first quarter and none in the second. Elliott led the Spartans with nine points in the half but Tanner Hatmaker and Justin Potter had eight each in a balanced attack.

But a more aggressive approach to offense in the third and fourth quarters resulted in a 33-point half.

Muterspaw had five in the third with Wilson and Sawyer Conrad had four each as Massie chipped away at the difference. Going to the fourth the Falcons trailed 45-37.

Wilson and Jerry Trout both scored six points in the fourth quarter. The Falcons were 8 for 10 at the line in the fourth and 13 for 16 total in the second half.

Waynesville, though, maintained the lead and made just enough at the line to hold off the Falcons.

Elliott finished with 15, despite not scoring in the fourth quarter.
