WILMINGTON — Wilmington defeated New Richmond 60-27 Thursday night to give head coach Zach Williams the 100th varsity win of his WHS girls basketball coaching career.

Wilmington is 8-11 overall, 3-6 in the SBAAC American Division. New Richmond drops to 3-16 overall, 0-9 in the Division.

The game also highlighted the quintet of WHS seniors — Ke’Asia Robinson, Taylor Noszka, Caroline Diels, Sophie Huffman and Katie Murphy.

Murphy scored 20 points, giving her 980 in her Hurricane career. Diels grabbed 12 rebounds.

Murphy’s 20 points gives her 980 for her WHS career and pulls her within 20 of the 1,000-point milestone.

“It’s been a great group,” Williams said. “They’re a very solid group of girls that come to work every day and do what’s asked of them to the best of their ability. They’ve represented their school, the program and the community very well.

“They’re good in the classroom. They’re always willing to volunteer … they’re just leaders on and off the court.”

The outcome of Thursday’s game was never in doubt. WHS won the first meeting at New Richmond 48-16 and this one was 15-3 after one quarter. The Hurricane didn’t shoot particularly well in the first half, making just 11 of 32 attempts.

In the second half, though, they were more patient on offense and that led to a 12 for 21 shooting performance.

The Hurricane defense forced the Lions into 10 turnovers in the opening quarter and 22 for the game.
