New urgent care facility opens

CLARKSVILLE — The new Greater Tomorrow Health location has opened its doors to students and locals.

The new urgent care facility, located near Clinton-Massie Middle School, offers the same services as the Wilmington location on Rombach Avenue, minus x-ray services.

Carrie Fairchild, one of the co-owners of Greater Health, expressed excitement about the new location opening.

The project began around two years ago with construction on the facility beginning in February 2022.

“We actually were approached by Clinton-Massie and asked if it would be of interest,” said Fairchild. “We were one of the ones who were asked if it would be something of interest. It was. And a couple of years later here we are.”

Fairchild said the response has been great so far.

“I believe this will be beneficial for the students and the staff that go to the school. But it’s also open to the public as well,” she said.

Fairchild added that the biggest thing they’re hoping to accomplish is being able to offer assistance further out in the county. She advised they’re looking at health-based services and programs to implement at the school.

Matt Baker, Clinton-Massie Superintendent, told the News Journal in February 2022 he’s hoping the new facility will be helpful to students and staff.

“By providing service also to our community members, this project helps bring the [school] board’s desire to be the community center to a deeper reality,” said Baker.

There are more than 2,500 school-based health centers (SBHC) throughout the United States on or near school campuses. School-based health centers have emerged over the past 50 years as “a cost-effective service delivery model that improves health care access and outcomes for youth,” according to the professional Journal of Adolescent Health.

Federal grant funds are being used to renovate annex space for the health center — not local tax dollars, emphasized Baker. Clinton-Massie had been working with Interact for Health, a nonprofit out of Cincinnati, to bring a school-based health center on campus.
