NAPLES, Fla. – The Wilmington College softball team defeated Lesley University (Mass.) 3-0 and Westfield State University (Mass.) 6-4 Thursday on the final day of the Quakers’ spring trip.
WC finished the 10-game trip with an 8-2 record, with both losses by one run each.
In the victory over Lesley, Alexis Stringfellow hurled a shutout on 98 pitches and allowed just six hits. The win was the first of the season for Stringfellow.
Wilmington outhit Lesley 8-6 and had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double off the bat of Lindsey Carter in the first. Carter and McKenna Archey both finished 2-for-3 for the Quakers.
In the triumph over the Owls, Judaea Wilson finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Rachel Berry added two hits and two runs scored. Seven other Quakers finished with a hit.
Avree Entler picked up the win in relief of Izzy Rothrock. The key moment for WC came in the third when Westfield failed to score with bases loaded and one out. Carter ended the threat with a diving catch in foul territory.
Wilmington (8-4) will return to action on Wednesday, March 22, for its home-opener against Bluffton University. First pitch from the WC Softball Complex is slated for 3 p.m.
