Women’s Basketball Final: John Carroll 60, Wilmington 59

WILMINGTON — A last second shot didn’t fall and the Wilmington College women’s basketball team lost to John Carroll Saturday 60-59 at Fred Raizk Arena.

The Quakers are 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Washington Senior High School graduate Cassidy Lovett scored a career-high 25 points and pulled in a career-high 13 rebounds. She also had five steals.

Freshman Keetyn Hupp added 12 points and ZahKyria Walker scored 10 points.

Wilmington plays 7 p.m. tonight at Earlham College.

The Quakers trailed 7-2 early but forged to the lead, 16-13, after one quarter. WC trailed 30-26 at halftime and the difference grew to 39-28 in the third.

While Wilmington cut the difference to one in the fourth, the Quakers were never able to tie the game or take the lead. Wilmington trailed 54-46 but Walker and Lovett led a furious comeback as WC closed to within 60-59 with 19 seconds remaining in regulation.
