WILMINGTON — For the second straight game, the Wilmington College women’s basketball team avenged a loss from earlier in the season.

On Wednesday night at Fred Raizk Arena, the Quakers pulled away from Capital for a 54-36 win in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Wilmington (5-12, 3-8) lost to Capital earlier in the season 68-50. WC defeated Mount Union 71-59 Saturday. The Quakers lost to MU 66-45 in the first round of conference play.

WC will host Marietta 2 p.m. Saturday. The Quakers lost to the Pioneers 69-45 in the first meeting.

On Wednesday against Capital, Cassidy Lovett had 16 points and five steals. ZahKyria Walker had 13 points and two assists. Stephanie Altstaetter had nine rebounds and two assists to go along with three blocked shots.

Capital scored the first seven points of the game and still led 14-13 in the second quarter.

Natalie Rupp scored six points during a 15-1 WC run in the second and the way the WC defense was playing that 28-15 lead was virtually insurmountable.

Wilmington held Capital to 13 for 63 shooting on the night, including 3 for 23 beyond the three-point arc.

The 36 points is the fewest Wilmington has allowed since a 56-35 win over Mount Union on Jan. 28, 2017.
