WC men drop lacrosse season opener at Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Wilmington College men’s lacrosse team was defeated by Anderson 11-4 Wednesday in the WC season opener.

Nick Roca and Kegan Campbell led the Wilmington offense with two goals each.

The Quakers will be back in action 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hanover College.

The Ravens took a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Wilmington took advantage of a man up opportunity in the second quarter and Roca sent an unassisted strike into the back of the net to cut the lead to 3-1 with 11:04 remaining in the half.

The Quakers scored two more times in the second quarter, with one goal coming from Campbell and another one from Roca. They went into the half trailing 5-3.

The Quakers didn’t score in the third quarter and went down 8-3 heading into the final period. The final period saw Wilmington outshoot Anderson 12-6. They found the back of the net one more time with 3:13 remaining on a shot from Campbell.

Campbell led the team with five shots on goal. Roca led the team with seven ground balls.

Freshman Peyton Thompson made nine saves in the contest.

The Quakers took 32 shots, picked up 23 ground balls and had 14 successful clears.
