Sweep, swept: Wilmington College splits weekend twinbills

The Wilmington College softball team lost two games Sunday at Transylvania University, 8-0 and 14-2.

Wilmington is 17-20-1 on the year. Transylvania is 27-8.

In game one, Makenzie O’Neil had four strikeouts over her 3.2 innings in the circle for Wilmington.

In game two, Samantha Schwab hit her ninth homerun of the season. Quakers pitching had three strikeouts and Lauryn Humphrey ended the day with a scoreless inning.

On Saturday, the Quakers celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of John Carroll, 7-5 and 3-0.

In game one, Kori Cornett led Wilmington with three hits. Jocelyn Franz, Claire Scully, and Rachel Berry all had two hits. Franz and Scully both had a pair of RBI.

Aiyana Hancock pitched 6.1 innings and earned her 10th win of the season, while Laney Starbuck finished the game for her third save.

In the second game, Hillary Huffer pitched a complete game shutout as WC improved to 5-11 in the OAC. She only allowed four hits and had three strikeouts in the first complete game shutout of her career.

Five Quakers had one hit in the game. Schwab had two RBI while Scully had one.
