LEES CREEK – Williamsburg and East Clinton hooked up in a pitcher’s duel and the Wildcats came out on top 2-1 Monday in SBAAC National Division baseball action at ECHS.
The Astros drop to 0-5 overall, 0-2 in the National.
The Wildcats are 4-2 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
The game was scoreless through five innings but WHS took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth.
Robert Norman’s sacrifice fly brought home Isaiah Curtis to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the seventh, the ‘Cats scored the go-ahead run on a balk, 2-1.
East Clinton threatened in the seventh with a runner at second and one out but failed to score.
“We had every opportunity to win that game,” EC coach Brian Carey said. “We didn’t execute when the runners were in scoring position and that was the difference. We beat them in every stat page in the book except runs. Matthew Hall threw a great game. I couldn’t ask anymore out of my pitchers the last couple games. We have to start giving them some run support.”
