Tuesday evening in Blanchester saw many residents anxious and willing to help out their friends and neighbors. The evening was the designated day to donate a $10 box of non-perishable and personal items to help folks still struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first-ever event spearheaded by Blanchester Village Council, in conjunction with the Blanchester Food Pantry, garnered almost $300 worth of donated items with approximately 20 boxes brought to the Municipal Building for distribution.

For the most part, the $10 boxes held more than $10, which was very generous. With churches closed and people not getting out, regular donations to the food pantry have suffered.

Leroy Addis, President of the Blanchester Food Pantry, said, “Some weeks it seems like we have plenty of food and some weeks it seems like we barely make it. I think for the first time event, it went over very well.”

The generosity of the community is greatly appreciated and the participation was quite impressive. The council and food pantry wish to extend their gratitude to everyone who donated.

Reilly Hopkins, Council Vice Mayor, said, “It is no surprise to me that many people gave beyond the $10 advertised amount; that’s just how we do it in Blanchester.”
