WILMINGTON — For the third year, a veterans suicide prevention awareness event called “Silent Watch” will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Clinton County Veterans Memorial downtown.

Jeff Rollins, Veterans Service Officer/Deputy Director in Clinton County, said that anyone who wishes to sign up for a 20-minute watch can call 937-382-3233 and speak to Jeanine or anyone on staff.

There are a reported 20 suicide deaths every day among veterans — about one-and-a-half times more often than those who have not served in the military, according to recent statistics.

Each year in September, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors and community members unite to promote suicide prevention awareness.

The Clinton County Veterans Service Office — with the support of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mental Health Recovery Service of Warren and Clinton Counties and the Wilmington Counseling Associates — organized the first Silent Watch, which has become an annual event.
