Clinton County eateries inspected

The following information is obtained from the Clinton County Health Department and is compiled from inspection reports.

Violations are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard, including inadequate cooking of food items or poor personal hygiene.

Engine House Pizza – Station #2, 416 E. Washington St., Sabina, Nov. 15.

Complaint: Received complaint regarding mice in facility and mice in pizza sauce container. Spoke with manager regarding complaint. Manager told employees to discard sauce and cheese on pizza prep unit where this happened. Facility has several glue traps set throughout the kitchen (and found evidence of rodent issues). See write-up.

Critical: Facility has large problem with mice. Found mouse droppings on top of pizza prep cooler, on floor under pizza oven, on counter/shelf where boxes and utensils are stored, on prep counter by side door, on extension cord on shelving over hot warmer. Glue trays throughout kitchen. Licensed pest control operator must be contacted immediately to address situation. Cups of sauce in reach-in refrigerator. All food must be dated for use withing seven days after opening. Cheesecake in refrigerator is not dated for use within seven days. Once cheesecake is put in refrigerator it must be dated for use.

Non-critical: No one at this facility is manager certified in food protection. All Class 3 and Class 4 facilities must have at least one person who is manager certified. Procedures not posted for cleaning up vomit/diarrhea. Front of pizza prep cooler coming off (back wall). 3-door cooler in kitchen has pool of water in back. Nonworking cooler in storage area. Shelving where pizza pans are stored is dirty. Cardboard is used under equipment, utensils, pans, etc. All non-food contact surfaces must be maintained clean, All cardboard needs to be removed immediately. Paint peeling on floor of storage area. Doors to outside do not close tightly/can see under garage doors. Floor was dirty along wall behind coolers in storage area.

Subway (inside Walmart), 2825 SR 73 South, Wilmington, Nov. 8.

Critical: No verification available that employees know when to report illness. Ice dispenser on the soda machine is dirty. Container on clean storage area full of scoops/tongs/dispensers that are dirty. Sauces on service line are not date marked. Sauces in walk-in cooler are not date marked. In the walk-in cooler, shredded cheese dated Oct. 10; white shredded cheese Oct. 10; bacon Oct. 10; Pepperoni Oct. 10; turkey Oct. 10; steak Oct. 10; chicken Oct. 10. (All product dated to be used by Oct. 10). All foods must be properly dated for use within 10 days. All product must be used or discarded by date on product.

Non-critical: There is no verification available that anyone in this facility is manager certified in food protection. All Class 3 and Class 4 facilities must have at least one person who is certified in food protection. Employees working not wearing hair restraints. Both employees have beards but no beard nets. Only one employee wearing hat. Icee machine not working. Tea brewing machine has broken brew basket. Broken handle on bread cabinet. Door seal on walk-in freezer broken and doesn’t close properly. Cabinet doors under soda fountain are dirty. Cart used to store trays of bread in kitchen are dirty. Water drip tray dirty with dirty/moldy water in drip tray. Inside of microwave dirty. Hand sink behind prep line appears to be leaking. Walls were dirty throughout the facility. Wall was dirty behind 3-compartment sink. Floor in middle prep area dirty, had wetness around cove molding. Dust/dirty on wall behind toaster oven. Floors dirty throughout facility. Missing outlet covers. Fire inspection within 48 hours.

Salvador’s Tacos & Ice Cream, 803 Cherry St., Blanchester, Nov. 8.

Critical: Flies observed in facility. Person In Charge stated will repair outer openings and work with pest control operator.

Non-critical: Exit door has gaps around door. Wet wiping cloth stored on counter in-between use. Person In Charge corrected and will store in sanitizer solution. Flavor syrup bottles had residue on outside of container. Dust accumulated on air conditioner. Debris under floor under cooking equipment.
