WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police are investigating the death of a man struck by a train late Thursday night.
Police received a call just before midnight of a man hit by a train on the tracks between Locust Street and Lowes Drive, directly behind Higgins Street.
According to WPD Chief Duane Weyand, upon arrival officers found a white male with severe injuries. The victim, identified as Timothy Camp, 38, of Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This isn’t an intersection where pedestrians cross; this was about a half-mile from either Locust or Lowes Drive,” said Weyand. “Wilmington Police have investigated three fatalities from persons on the tracks in the last three years. I can’t emphasize enough to stay off the tracks.”
