Wilmington High School cheerleaders Izzy Coomer, Olivia Lewis, Lauren Hall and Olivia Minney were selected as All-American cheerleaders at the UCA Cheer Camp’s award ceremony and performance.
The WHS cheerleaders attended the UCA Cheer Camp July 21-23 at Princeton High School.
Each day of the camp, the WHS varsity, junior varsity and freshmen cheerleaders learned different cheers and dance routines. UCA staff evaluated the different high school squads in attendance.
Over the course of the three-day camp, the squads earned numerous ribbons, trophies, spirit sticks and an overall spirit award for the entire camp.
During the camp, the WHS cheerleaders were selected to try-out for the honor of being named All-American cheerleader. Coomer, a freshman; Lewis, a junior; Hall, a senior; and Minney, a senior, were selected for the honor.
Making up the WHS varsity squad are seniors Sarah Creditt, Brittany Gregory, Hall, Minney, Kimberli Nieto, Sydney Wright; juniors Samantha Achtermann, Abby Bowman, Lexi Bowman, Leah Deck, Kyra France, Mekenzie Jones, Lewis and Aubrey Trusty.
The WHS junior varsity cheer squad members are sophomores Mahqgany Collins, Hannah Gaines, Madison Gilbert, Khya Humbert, Erica Preston, Kylie Price, Haley Reynolds and Adysen Watson.
The freshman cheer squad for WHS is Bre Barnett, Coomer, Jaya Cowin-Rockhold, Chloe Deck, Alexia Frazier, McKenzie Frazier, Maddy Rickman and Makenzie Sweetman.
The WHS cheer squads are led by head coach Sheena Henry and assistant coaches Hillary Battrell and Jaime Hibbs.
In addition, Ashley Davis, the Borror Middle School cheer coach, and Ciera Stewart, a former WHS cheerleader and an All-American cheerleader, assisted Henry and her staff at the UCA Cheer Camp.
Following the UCA Cheer Camp, the Wilmington cheerleaders attended a day camp at Wilmington College led by WC cheer coach Chip Dillon and the WC cheerleaders. The WHS cheer squads learned new techniques and worked on updating their dances.
