ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Behind six goals from Sam Spirk, Wilmington defeated Clinton-Massie 9-0 Tuesday in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference American Division match at Frank Irelan Field.
Wilmington evens its record at 1-1 and is 1-0 in league play. For Clinton-Massie, this was the first match of the season.
In addition to Spirk’s WHS single game best of six goals, Seth Gundlach handed out a record five assists.
Luca Terrigno (2005 versus Middletown) and Bennie Spirk both scored five goals in a game to hold the single game record prior to Sam Spirk breaking it.
There were several Hurricane players who had four assists in a game prior to Gundlach’s new mark.
Charly Schumacher had a goal and two assists while Eli Hicks and Jacob Romer had one goal each. Matt Butcher and Brady Vilvens both had assists.
Clinton-Massie coaches Logan and Julio Madrigal said goalkeeper Connor Harrison played well in the loss. They said the Falcons “worked hard until the end” despite the score.
