Defending champs bounce another county school

WEST CARROLLTON – State-ranked Kettering Alter defeated Wilmington 9-1 Monday in a Division II sectional final at West Carrollton High School.

The loss ends the Lady Hurricane season at 10-6-3.

Wilmington won eight of its last 12 matches, posting an 8-2-2 mark in the last half of the season. In the 12 matches, the Lady Hurricane had seven shutouts.

“Really proud of all the kids,” Wilmington head coach Kerry Lewis said. “They had a great season.”

For Wilmington, the match was the final in the careers of seniors Katlyn Jamiel, Ashlyn Carey, Miranda Thrasher, Maddie Siders, Suzannah Johns, Faith Sanderson, Pepper Cantwell and Anna Keiter.

Katlyn Jamiel scored the lone goal for Wilmington, hitting the net in the 55th minute of the match.

Wilmington defeated Eaton 4-0 and Madison 2-1 in its first two sectional matches.

Alter, ranked No. 2 in the state, is 13-0-5 on the year. The Lady Knights defeated Clinton-Massie 7-0 in its first tournament match last week.

The Lady Knights are the No. 1 seed in the sectional and are the defending state champions. They will play a district championship Thursday night against Tippecanoe.

The Lady Red Devils were the No. 1 seed in the Springfield sectional and defeated Bellefontaine 4-1 on Monday.
