OSHP: Driver of church bus dies in Warren Co. accident

WARREN COUNTY — A church bus driver was killed in a two-vehicle accident Sunday in Warren County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 9:38 a.m. on Dixie Highway at Manchester Road in Franklin Township.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Bluebird church bus, operated by Archie L. Cheesman, 59, of Hamilton, was northbound on Dixie Highway. A 2013 Subaru Outback, operated by Amber M. Payne, 39, of Middletown, was eastbound on Manchester Road.

The 2013 Subaru struck the bus in the left side, according to a news release from the OSHP. The Subaru Outback came to rest in the roadway. The bus continued northbound, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck a traffic sign and a utility pole.

Amber M. Payne, the driver of the Subaru Outback, was treated for minor injuries.

Archie L. Cheesman, the driver of the bus, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene, the OSHP stated.

The bus was occupied by approximately 25 passengers with an age range from 2 months of age to 41 years of age. Some of the occupants were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
