The East Clinton FFA Chapter held its annual banquet Tuesday celebrating a busy and successful year.
Last year, the chapter was forced to hold its banquet online, but this year, the chapter is pleased to say that it was able to hold the banquet in person with over 275 guests.
The chapter also streamed the banquet live to Facebook for any who were unable to attend.
The banquet began with an officer slideshow and the introduction of the chapter’s 2020-2021 officer team: President Carter Carey, Vice President Maggie Mathews, Secretary Marci Ellis, Treasurer Katie Carey, Reporter Carah Anteck, Sentinel Lydia Kessler, Student Advisor Lanie Clark, Vice President Chairs Mitchell Bean and Brody Fisher, Assistant Secretary Zach Vest, and Web Tech Jenna Stanley.
Following the introduction were opening ceremonies and President Carter Carey welcomed all guests and members to the banquet. After the welcome came an invocation by Sentinel Lydia Kessler.
The chapter then treated all of its guests to a dinner. To keep crowding low, guests were released by table to be served.
After dinner, Reporter Carah Anteck presented the year in review and chapter slideshow, then Lydia Kessler and Vice President Maggie Mattews briefly introduced the chapter’s members and their guests.
Vice President Chair Brody Fisher recognized every member who participated in a community service event.
Secretary Marci Ellis and Student Advisor Lanie Clark led appreciations of parents and community members that helped the chapter in one way or another. Officers then honored select community members, announcing the chapter’s 2021 honorary members: Jason Boeckmann, and Lori and Brian Arnold
Freshman Anna Lopez gave her Creed presentation — the FFA Creed is a speech created to allow the members to focus on the benefits of agriculture, the rich history of the industry, and their future role in agriculture.
The banquet honors members and for their achievements throughout the school year. Members were honored for attendance, career development events, supervised agricultural experience awards, receiving degrees, and selling the most fruit in the chapter’s annual fruit sale.
Outstanding accomplishments from members and teams recognized include: the chapter’s Milk Quality and Products team which earned first place at the state level; the Ag Soil Judging team, fifth place at the state level; and the Dairy Cattle Judging team, fifth place at the state level.
Senior members receiving perfect attendance were: Kori Kile, Nathan Vest, Marci Ellis, Carter Carey, Lanie Clark, and Maggie Mathews.
The number one fruit seller was McKinzey DeBord, selling $3,000 worth of products.
Members receiving their American FFA Degrees were: Kori Kile, Emma Malone, Wyatt Riddle, Caden Stewart, Nathan Vest, and Avery Wood; Star Greenhand Farmers: Anna Lopez and Dylan Arnold; Star Chapter Farmer: Teddy Murphy; Star Junior Farmer: Jenna Stanley; DeKalb Award Winner and Star CDE Student: Maggie Mathews; Star SAE Student Mitchell Bean and Maggie Mathews; and Star Shop Student: Kaleb Kingery.
After awards were given, Chapter Advisor Matt Griffith spoke, summing up the events of the year, and the chapter’s feelings on it.
After the speech, the chapter began to honor its seniors. The senior section began with a senior slideshow, presented by Lydia Kessler.
Every senior was recognized with a picture and a description of their plans after high school. The seniors then introduced their parents. Senior officers then gave some final remarks. President Carter Carey and his father, Kevin Carey, spoke to their family and the chapter.
At the conclusion of the banquet, the new 2021-2022 officers were installed. The new team of officers includes: Vice President Chairs Brody Fisher and Timmi Mahanes, Assistant Secretary Dylan Arnold, Social Media Director Anna Lopez, Treasurer Jenna Stanley, Reporter Teddy Murphy, Sentinel Zach Vest, Secretary Lydia Kessler, Vice President Mitchell Bean, and President Katie Carey.
