WILMINGTON — Clinton County’s interim treasurer was named Monday.

Joyce Atley is a former Clinton County treasurer and “will be familiar with the office and processes necessary to conduct business until the newly appointed treasurer is seated,” the county stated.

Longtime Clinton County treasurer Jason Walt retired from the position effective May 1.

The Republican Central Committee will name his replacement at a special meeting on Monday, May 17.

Clinton County Republican Chairman Tim Inwood told the News Journal that, by Ohio law, the committee cannot select the new treasurer for the first five days of the vacancy, and then it has up to 45 days to fill it.

He said that currently four candidates have come forward seeking to fill the post — Scott Holmer, Jonathan McKay, Jay Peterson and Kyle Rudduck.
