Kevin Abt, Dean of Instruction at Laurel Oaks Career Campus, spoke to the Wilmington Rotary Club which meets at noon on Tuesday at the CMH meeting room.

Abt shared some information on Laurel Oaks and the whole Great Oaks system, as well as on career tech education in general.

He started with a history of the location and the school and highlighted the growth of both the school and the whole Great Oaks program. It serves 36 school districts from the Indiana border reaching into south central Ohio.

The system includes Laurel Oaks, Live Oaks, Diamond Oaks and Scarlet Oaks. The campuses have many of the same programs, but some campuses have specialized programs, such as the Aviation program at Laurel Oaks.

Recently 70,000 square feet was added to the Laurel Oaks campus. Next year they will bring an HVAC program online.

Great Oaks serves both high school-aged students and adults. Last year Great Oaks served 18,524 adults and 18,029 students.

Abt said Laurel Oaks has 436 students registered for the fall semester.
