WILMINGTON – The City of Wilmington announced the commencement of multiple projects throughout the City of Wilmington.

The Rombach Avenue Project resumed construction last week with sidewalk and trail construction on the south side of Rombach throughout the corridor.

This week, fire hydrants are being relocated on the south side and pavement repairs may start. Motorists should expect the eastbound lane of Rombach closed from Kroger to Progress Way, according to a news release from the city on Tuesday afternoon.

The week of April 4, paving work is expected to begin and will continue for several weeks. During this time, there will be single-lane closures as needed. The road closures will shift as the work moves through the corridor.

Motorists should expect very long delays at times and should allow ample extra time to reach destinations in April and May.

The project is being funded through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Urban Paving Program, Ohio Public Works Commission and city dollars. Jurgensen Construction is the contractor for the project, and the project is managed by ODOT.

The Rombach Avenue project is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Downtown

The Downtown Wilmington Intersection Project is expected to commence this week. The project is limited to South Street (US 68) between Sugartree and Locust.

The first phase includes curb work and the construction of sidewalk bump-outs at the intersections. In the second phase, new traffic signals will be installed, along with pedestrian signals and improved crosswalks.

The city stated that, during construction, there should be few interruptions in vehicular traffic, with most of the work occurring in the parking lanes and shoulder. Some parking spaces will be unavailable. Pedestrians will encounter detours at the intersections. Detour signage will be in place.

The Downtown Wilmington Intersection Project is expected to be completed in October. The contractor is Complete General, and ODOT is managing the project.

On Mulberry

The North Mulberry Street Improvement Project is expected to begin the second week of April. This project involves replacing a 4-inch water line with a 6-inch water line from Locust to Xenia Avenue on Mulberry and from Xenia Avenue to A Street on New York Avenue. All lead water service lines will also be replaced.

In addition to the waterline work, the corridor will be paved, damaged sidewalk areas will be repaired, and new sidewalks will be placed to provide a continuous pedestrian access along the entire street.

ADA compliant ramps will be installed at the intersections, as well as sidewalk bump-outs.

Motorists should expect lane closures and flagging during the construction.

The construction is expected to be completed by December.

The project is funded through the Ohio Public Works Commission, the Ohio EPA Water Supply Revolving Loan Account, funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), and city funds. Fillmore Construction is the contractor, and the project is being managed by the City of Wilmington.

Airborne

The Airborne Road Pavement Rehabilitation Project will also be in full swing in April. This project is approximately 3.5 miles long, stretching from SR 134 to SR 73.

The work includes asphalt milling and overlay of three inches of asphalt, as well as full-depth repairs as needed, spot curb replacement and grading to enhance drainage. Guardrail repairs and improvements to the school zone are also planned.

The over $2 million project is a collaboration between the Clinton County Port Authority (CCPA) and the City of Wilmington. The CCPA was instrumental in securing $1.1 million of grant funding through the Ohio Department of Development’s Roadwork Development (629) Fund.

The City of Wilmington is managing the project. Fillmore Construction is the contractor. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Be cautious

The City of Wilmington asks all motorists to continue being patient, reduce speed, and exercise added caution when traveling near work zones. Long delays are expected.
