Conversations that Count on SCOTUS ruling

The Clinton County Alliance for Compassion and Truth (A.C.T.) invites the public to participate in a facilitated conversation, on Saturday, August 13 about the June 24 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, in the case of Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The second of two Conversations That Count is set for 10:15-11:45 a.m., in the Kirk Room at the Wilmington Public Library, and will include a brief review of the decision and its underlying legal principles, an update on the state of women’s reproductive healthcare in Ohio, further potential consequences of the decision, and ways to support women and girls directly impacted.

The Rev. Elaine Silverstrim, A.C.T. president and Conversations That Count facilitator, says, “One thing is clear, the Dobbs decision, like the Roe decision it overturned, has not closed the conversation, but intensified the divisions that precipitated the ruling.

“For many, this has reopened deep wounds from the time prior to Roe. For others, it brings significant uncertainty about the state of women’s reproductive healthcare going forward. The world has shifted for all of us, and we endeavor to create a safe place for open and honest conversation and dialogue when we gather.”

The text of the Dobbs opinion is available at https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/21pdf/19-1392_6j37.pdf.

A.C.T. is a women-led, pro-democracy coalition that encourages political engagement on critical local, national, and global issues that affect the lives of people in their own community and beyond.
