Blazing new trails and connecting communities

WILMINGTON — Another step is complete at connecting the county with a trail.

On Saturday, September 24 at 9 a.m., the Clinton County Trails Coalition will be hosting a ribbon-cutting for the trail connecting Ogden Road to the City of Wilmington.

Bruce Saunders, Chair of the Trails Coalition Board, described seeing this next step in a massive 33-year project as very gratifying.

“We thought this was going to be an easier project since it was mostly an open field,” said Saunders. “It’s because of the generosity of the Roberts Family (Larry and Terri) that this was possible.”

The Roberts fmaily donated two miles of the three-and-a-half mile section of the trail; the rest was owned by the city.

According to the Trail Coalition’s website, the group envisions a trail that will traverse Wilmington from east to west that would eventually extend westward from Wilmington to the Little Miami Scenic Trail in Warren County. It would also extend eastward to Washington Court House through Sabina.

Saunders also is thankful for the help from Mayor John Stanforth and other Wilmington city officials for their assistance in building the trail.

“The city took on the project of actually building the trail after the Trails Coalition raised the money to build it through grants from the Clean Ohio Trail Fund and state appropriation,” said Saunders.

He hopes that people will come out with their walking shoes and bicycles to the opening.
