WILMINGTON — Grab your lederhosen and head out to the annual Oktoberfest in downtown Wilmington on Sugartree Street this weekend.

UPDATE: NOTE: Fraternal Order of Eagles 1224 has announced the games of chance event Friday night is cancelled due to a lack of volunteers to run the event. The Eagles apologize for the cancellation.

On Saturday, activities will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 11 p.m.

Oktoberfest is a family-friendly event and all kids’ activities (3-7:30 p.m.) are free on West Sugartree Street. The Cincinnati Face Painters will be there, as will fire trucks.

If you have a wiener dog or know of someone who does, bring them out for the wiener dog races at 4 p.m. down the center of Sugartree Street. Prizes for the winners are Blue Buffalo gift cards for 1st ($100); 2nd ($50); and 3rd ($25).

At 5 p.m. is the wiener toss competition.

Wilmington’s Oktoberfest has partnered with the U.S. Steinholding Association and will be holding a Steinholding competition at 6 p.m. The winners of the men and women’s competition qualify for the Steinholding State Championship Competition Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Germania Society in Cincinnati.

An “Around the Dora” beer walk Saturday features fall and/or Oktoberfest beers. If your ticket gets at least 50-percent punched, you will be entered to win a gift basket worth over $500.

There will be a DJ 4-7 p.m., and on stage will include, at 3 p.m., Fancy Free Cloggers.

Live music will be on the City Stage begins at 7:30 p.m.

Food vendors include Schmidt’s Sausage Food Truck out of Columbus’ German Village, Mexi-Q Barbecue, Baker St. Culinary, KK Grub Hub, and Gigi’s KettlePop.
