City of Wilmington sets Fourth fireworks

WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington’s Fourth of July fireworks, a tradition since the 1950s, will continue this year with the help of some local leaders and businesses.

The fireworks will light up on Tuesday, July 4 at dusk (approximately 9:45 p.m.) from J.W. Denver Williams Jr. Memorial Park. The Clinton County Community Band will perform starting at 9 p.m.

For decades several organizations had headed up the fundraising efforts needed to make sure Wilmington had Fourth of July fireworks on the Fourth of July.

This year, in large part due to the spearheading by Jonathan McKay, Mark McKay, Randy Riley and Trevor Shoemaker — working together with the cooperation of the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce — the needed funds were raised to continue the event.

R&L Carriers and Peoples Bank are major sponsors along with sponsorship from Wilmington Savings Bank.
