BOE votes against a move to Annex

WILMINGTON — On Friday, the Clinton County Board of Elections (BOE) voted 4-0 against relocating to the County Annex facility on South Nelson Avenue.

Moving to the Annex was an option discussed in the ongoing efforts to deal with the space problems of three county government departments, including the BOE.

One of the main reasons board members opposed the proposal is they don’t want to be a source of frustration or conflict to other government offices and programs that currently utilize the Annex facility, in particular the community room, reported BOE Director Shane C. Breckel. The relocation proposal being considered would have granted the BOE 10 weeks per year exclusive use of the community room.

Board of Elections staffers are entering “election mode at this point,” Breckel said Friday after the special meeting to discuss the space at the Annex.

The filing deadline for non-partisan candidates seeking office in November’s General Election is next Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 4 p.m.

The BOE will meet 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 to certify non-partisan candidates to the Nov. 7 ballot, said Breckel.
