WILMINGTON — Strength & Dignity Clothing Co. is moving downtown.
The local women’s clothing boutique, currently located on Prairie Avenue, is moving to 57 W. Main St., and owner Chrissy Thirey hopes to open the weekend of July 4.
Thirey, who attended Clinton-Massie High School, said she has lived in Clinton County for about 15 years now, having moved from Dayton when she was 16.
“It’s pretty different from Dayton, you can imagine,” she said. “Now I’m here, and it’s my home. I love it.”
Thirey said she started the business about five years ago, selling her own homemade jewelry, scarves and accessories. In 2013, she started selling clothes out of her basement.
Now, Thirey sells clothes, shoes and handmade accessories out of her home on Prairie Avenue, and operates a successful online store as well.
“I’ve just grown my business since then,” she said. “It’s been constantly growing since then.”
Thirey said she started her business because she likes unique clothes that set themselves apart from those that can be found in chain stores, both in their uniqueness and their quality.
Her selection, she said, combines trendiness and modesty with high quality.
“Every item in the store is hand-selected by me,” she said. “I do have kind of an eclectic taste, so I have a wide range.”
Thirey said she’s happy to be moving to a location with more foot traffic.
“It’s been a really great thing, and I feel really great about moving downtown now because I’ve already built up a clientele,” she said.
Thirey said she’s excited to get things started at the new location.
“We’re almost finished with the renovations,” she said.
She said she has been looking for places to expand for a while now, and the Main Street location fit her mold.
“It was really just kind of everything I was looking for,” she said.
