WHS names students of the month

Wilmington High School has named its October students of the month:

Savannah Scarberry, nominated by Business Department, “demonstrates qualities of responsibility as well as leadership. She has taken the extra step of helping her peers in class and has been patient and thorough in her work.” Nominated by Business Department.

Taylor Snell, nominated by English Department, “has demonstrated such commitment and determination in being prepared and completing all tasks asked of her. She is a model student when it comes to helping her peers in class, always asking for assistance when needed, and she is an all around pleasant young lady.”

Ricardo Nevarez, nominated by Social Studies Department, “has excelled in his World History class so far this year. He has excelled on tests and quizzes, takes an active role in class discussion, and has been very creative in writing tasks that have been assigned. Ricardo sets an outstanding example for other students in the class to follow.”

Olivia Minney, nominated by Science Department, “is a hard worker in Biology. She is determined to do well and often helps her classmates succeed. She asks questions when she is confused and is always willing to try to answer questions in class, even if she is unsure of the answer.”

Anna Baiocchi, nominated by Math Department, “is a foreign exchange student from Italy and an extremely hard worker. She came into class late and has worked hard to make sure she got caught up. She has done exceptionally well and is a pleasant student to be around. Anna is determined to do well in this high school away from home and continue on to a college in Italy.”

John Stewart, nominated by Ag Department, “has shown great leadership and is a standout among his peers. He has willingly expressed an interest in several CDE competitions and to date has 100 percent attendance in all FFA activities for the year.”

Hailey Fugate, nominated by Art Department, “is always prepared to work and have fun. She uses her own ideas in addition to the assigned criteria for projects, which are completed with thoughtfulness and good craft. She is helpful to others when she is finished early.”

Ashlyn Carey, nominated by Foreigh Language Department, “comes to class prepared and arrives on time to class every day. She participates in class and works very hard.”

Alyssa Boothe, nominated by Choral Department, “is a CCP student (College Credit Plus) who is taking two classes at WHS and three classes at Southern State University, while working full-time. Yet with all those responsibilities, Alyssa still manages to be a leader in her choir both vocally and motivationally. She also is a member of the robe crew and, as such, is charged with the responsibility of assigning robes to all choir students and keeping them organized and tidy.”

Austin West, nominated by Band Program, “is a member of the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. He consistently serves as a leader, giving advice to other members, showing a high level of responsibility,and demonstrating ownership through making suggestions for improvement.”

Tiana Claydon, nominated by Theatre Department: “Her work on Greek masks and costume design has been exemplary. Her attention to detail and artistry really makes her work stand out. Along with her artistic skill, she is a courteous and kind student who does her best to help her friends in the class.”

Dana Hamby-Watson, nominated by Exceptional Student Education, “always has a smile in the classroom or out of the classroom. He encourages his classmates and works hard himself. He is always ready to work and even though learning new things can be tough for him, he is always willing to try!”
