BLANCHESTER — A woman was transported by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Regional Hospital in Dayton after she was shot by her boyfriend during “amorous role-playing” at a residence at 138 Orchard View Lane late Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The condition of Mary Neace, 28, of that address, was unknown; she was in surgery as of about 9 p.m., according to Blanchester Police Chief Chief Scott Reinbolt.

At around 5:30 p.m. Blanchester Emergency Medical Service was dispatched to the home on an unknown medical emergency.

Upon arrival they found Neace suffering from a gunshot wound, Reinbolt stated in a press release. Ambulance personnel then called for police.

Ptl. Kristen Jeffers “spoke to the only other person present in the home, Jamie McLaughlin, 31, Neace’s cohabitant boyfriend,” said Reinbolt. “Ptl. Jeffers phoned supervisory personnel and a Clinton County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene to assist. Several Blanchester police officers were called to work from home.”

Reinbolt said the home was processed for physical evidence by Blanchester police and witnesses were interviewed. Several items of physical evidence were collected at the scene, including a 9mm Glock pistol.

“The evidence gathered to this point indicates McLaughlin and Neace were engaged in amorous role-playing with McLaughlin holding the firearm,” said Reinbolt. “Evidence available at this point indicates both McLaughlin and Neace believed the firearm was not loaded, when it accidentally discharged and struck Neace in the torso.”

The investigation into this matter is ongoing, he added.

A shooting occurred at this Blanchester residence late Wednesday afternoon, police said.
