Blanchester American Legion receives bus from Wilmington Post

BLANCHESTER — American Legion Posts are known for their donations to the community. This time the Wilmington American Legion Post 49 made a donation to the Blanchester American Legion Marion Post 179.

American Legion Post 49 Honor Guard Commander Mike Sutton stated that in April 2015, the Wilmington Church of Christ donated the bus (shown) to his post.

The bus Post 49 was using at that time was breaking down and was becoming very costly to maintain. The Wilmington Post was very appreciative for that donation from the church.

In 2016, a Bus Committee was formed at Post 49 to ascertain the feasibility of a fundraising project to purchase a new bus. A fundraiser was authorized and it resulted in the delivery of a new bus to Post 49 on May 23.

Sutton said that, “We wanted to ‘pay it forward’ — we knew that Blanchester did not have a bus of their own. We wanted to donate our old bus to them.

“We (Post 49) are very happy that we were able to make this donation to them.”

On Monday June 4, Sutton presented the bus and title to members of Blanchester American Legion Marion Post 179.
