BLANCHESTER — Blanchester FFA annually welcomes its greenhand (first-year) members into the chapter at Greenhand Night.
Here, the officers perform their opening ceremonies to lead new members and their families into four informative stations about what the new members’ FFA careers could include. Each station was led by a pair of officers as they taught each group about one part of the organization.
At the first station, led by Treasurer Tom Black and President Brighton Morris, members were taught about official dress and various events that our chapter participates in. The two main ones include attending both national and state conventions.
Secondly, Vice President of Agriculture Caili Baumann and Reporter Jillian Richardson taught members about supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) and record-keeping on our online system called AET.
At the third station, led by Vice President of Communities Matt O’Neill and Sentinel Chloe Taylor, the new members were able to paint their hand green, leaving their “greenhand” on the wall as a representation of our new members.
The fourth station was very informative as it included all the Career Development Events the Blanchester FFA participates in, such as parliamentary procedure in the fall, public speaking in the winter and judging seasons from spring into the summer. This session was led by Vice President of Leadership Ashleigh Osborn and Secretary Felicity Richardson.
To bring our informative and fun-filled evening to a close, everyone met back together for closing ceremonies. Afterward, snacks and beverages were provided to everyone in attendance as the chapter officers and advisors got to meet our new members and their families.
Blanchester FFA would like to thank all members and families who came to the event, as well as high school staff who helped with the contribution of their classroom and technology.
