WILMINGTON — The McDermott Village Neighborhood Watch is back at it.
On Saturday, neighbors and residents of the neighborhood gathered in the shelter house area of the Wilmington Church of Christ for the 3rd Annual Neighborhood Watch Block Party.
Joined by friends and neighbors, attendees enjoyed a potluck lunch and live music provided by Joyce and Kyle Wolfe, residents of the neighborhood.
Also in attendance were Mayor John Stanforth, Wilmington Police Chief Duane Weyand, and officers of the Wilmington Police Department. Stuffed animals were collected and will be donated to the Wilmington Police and Fire Departments to be given to children during emergency events.
Since forming in August 2016, the neighborhood watch has continued to unite the McDermott Village community, building strong collaboration across neighborhood residents. The watch group has also built a strong partnership with the City of Wilmington and the Wilmington Police Department in efforts to keep the neighborhood safe.
“The neighborhood watch has provided an opportunity for neighbors to meet and develop personal relationships which is an important part of maintaining safety and security in the community,” said neighborhood resident and watch group member Jarett Roush.
The watch group has a strong group of volunteers that work hard to make events such as the block party possible. The McDermott Village Neighborhood Watch serves neighbors residing on Jefferson Drive, Kenyon Drive, Lanyard Lane, McDermott Avenue, Mayfair Drive, Peggy Lane, Preston Drive, Spinnaker Place, and Washington Avenue.
