EC FFA in soils competitions

The East Clinton FFA Soils team has competed in two contests for the 2018 year with two teams, Urban and Rural.

Taking part in the Rural team were Carlie Ellis, Gracie McCarren, Carter Carey, Holy Bernard, Katie Carey and Ashley Kinner. The Urban team competing was Trenton Garen, Quinton Tolle, Dakota Slone, Jaycee Smithson, Parker Stewart and Regan Walker.

The first contest, which was district soils, was held Sept. 13 at the Hillsboro YMCA. Present were around 100 judgers for Rural as well as Urban.

Both teams had great success. Placing first overall, the Rural team swept the competition with Carlie Ellis second overall, Carter Carey third, Ashley Kinner fourth, Katie Carey sixth, Gracie McCarren 11th and Holy Bernard 15th overall.

As for the Urban team, Trenton Garen placed 14th, Quinten Tolle 15th, Dakota Slone 20th, Jaycee Smithson 21st, Parker Stewart 26th and Regan Walker 39th. These placings brought the Urban team to place fourth overall. Both teams qualified for State Soils.

At State, the Rural team placed 11th overall. Gracie McCarren, the top scorer, placed 18th overall. The Urban team placed 20th overall. The highest scorer for that team was Parker Stewart, placing 45th overall.

The teams would like to thank all the farmers and community members who helped prepare pits for the team to practice.
