CINCINNATI (AP) — A police union leader says it’s time to end the investigations into the failed response to a 16-year-old Ohio student who died trapped in a minivan parked near his school.

Fraternal Order of Police local president Sgt. Dan Hils says there have been multiple investigations that cleared police officers of any “willful negligence.” He says officers “also have been traumatized” by the death and deserve closure.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said last week his office thoroughly reviewed the Cincinnati police and Hamilton County sheriff’s investigations and two independent reviews. Deters expressed sympathy Thursday to Kyle Plush’s family while concluding that no charges were appropriate in the case.

Plush’s family says more investigation is needed. They’re frustrated with incomplete explanations of what happened and the slow pace of reform.
