EC starts slow, powers past Massie in 3

LEES CREEK — East Clinton shrugged off a slow start and defeated Clinton-Massie 29-27, 25-11, 25-11 Monday in non-league play at the EC gym.

“We were slow coming out the first set,” EC coach Sarah Sodini acknowledged. “We had three girls out with injuries so it took us a second to get into our groove, but they found it and played well in the second and third sets.”

The Astros are 16-1 on the year while the Falcons go to 3-15.

For the Falcons, Alaina Bayless had three kills, an ace, seven digs, two blocks and 18 passes. Samantha Bowman finished with an ace, five digs and 13 passes. Laila Davis contributed three aces, a dig, three blocks and six passes.

Natalee Hillman had five kills, three aces, 11 digs and 34 passes. Anna Jones chipped in three kills. Mackenzie Peters had four kills, two digs, three blocks and five passes.

Maddie Phipps had two digs and six passes while Maddie Ward recorded two kills, 10 assists, an ace, three digs and seven passes. Olivia Ward had an ace, seven digs and 24 passes. Holly Young had three assists, 16 digs and 48 passes.

For East Clinton, Trinity Bain had two aces and two digs. Jordan Collom finished with three aces and 23 digs. Libby Evanshine had 16 kills, eight aces, eight assists and six digs. Jozie Jones chipped in a block while Anna Malone had a kill.

Lydia Kessler recorded a kill, three aces and seven digs. Kelsi Lilly had six kills, three aces, an assist, a block and five digs. Lauren Runyon had six kills, an assist and a dig. Megan Tong contributed three kills, two aces, 18 assists and three digs. Kami Whiteaker had two kills, an ace, a block, three assists and a dig.
