WILMINGTON, Ohio – Ohio Northern University, ranked No. 14 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, swept the Wilmington College volleyball team 25-17, 25-21, 25-8 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Hermann Court Wednesday evening.

Set one was even through 18 points as a Christiana Yarian kill tied the match 9-9, but the Polar Bears scored 9-of-12 points to pull away. In set two, the most competitive of the three, ONU raced out to an 8-3 lead, forcing WC head coach Sophie Windover to call timeout. The visitors led by as many as nine points but service runs from Andie Dolven and Macee Hamilton got the hosts back within three points at 17-14. The Quakers couldn’t get closer, however, as both teams traded side outs from a 22-19 score.

Set three began with both teams scoring three points each, but Rachel Jennings served a dozen straight points up for ONU to put the match away.

For Wilmington, Sydney Geibel had a team-best six kills and was one of four Quakers to hit a positive attack percentage. Dolven assisted on 14-of-17 team kills while Sofia Thomas and Trinity VanDusen both had double-digit dig performances.

Wilmington continues OAC play at Marietta College Saturday.
