The Blanchester High School softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday to open the 2019 season, losing 10-9 to Eastern Brown and 7-0 to Western Brown.

In the opener, the Ladycats had a 9-1 lead but the Lady Warriors scored five times in the sixth and four in the seventh for the win.

“We lost a heartbreaker,” BHS coach Jamey Grogg said, noting Eastern Brown won the game on a walk-off two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. “That is a tough way to start a season.”

Rianna Mueller (0-1) and Zoie Stanforth pitched for BHS and allowed just three earned runs. Blanchester committed five errors.

Madison Creager had two hits, including a homerun, drove in three runs and scored three runs. Kassidy Abney, Chloe Stewart and Savanna Shank also had hits for BHS. Elecia Patton scored two runs.

Against Western Brown, Blanchester was held to one hit, struck out 17 times and had four errors in the field. Sydney Barnes was the WB pitcher and Grogg said she is “one of the best pitchers in Southwest Ohio.”

Creager had the only BHS hit, a two-out single in the seventh.

Grogg said Shank and Lana Roy played well in the BHS outfield while Patton had several great plays at shortstop. The coach also said Abney threw out runners attempting to steal in both games.
