GOSHEN – Jack Murphy and he Wilmington High School boys golf team closed the door with authority on the rest of the SBAAC American Division Monday at the 18-hole end-of-year tournament.

Murphy, who has led the American standings from start to finish, had a 4-over 75 as Wilmington won the tournament and the overall league championship.

“Today was a big win for us and we are very excited about back-to-back conference championships,” WHS coach Phil Gilmore said.

Wilmington started the season tied with Western Brown but fell behind the Broncos by two strokes after the second divisional. Big wins at Snow Hill and Stillmeadows allowed the Hurricane to pull away and have a comfortable lead going into Monday’s 18-hole finale.

Instead of coasting to a victory, WHS went out and shot a 344, 17 shots clear of the field and won by 49 strokes.

Murphy, who was player of the year in 2018, won the player of year honors this time by 14 shots over Tabor Tesmer of Western Brown.

Clinton-Massie, third overall just one shot out of second place, was led by Ethan Johnson who had an 84. Johnson birdied the final two of his round, coach Phil Larrick said.
