Quaker women pummel Defiance, 3-0

WILMINGTON – In a one-sided affair, the Wilmington College women’s soccer team defeated Defiance College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Fightin’ Quakers are now 5-2-1 heading into Ohio Athletic Conference competition. The Yellow Jackets’ fall to 4-5-1.

“We played a lot of players today, which was important as we need everyone working hard and committed as we move into Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play,” Head Women’s Soccer Coach Steve Spirk said.

The Quakers struck first in the 34th minute when Abby Spirk converted a penalty kick. In the 39th minute, freshman Brianna Waller pressured the Yellow Jacket defense into an own goal. Tiffany Hayes concluded the scoring by finishing off a corner kick.

Wilmington dominated Defiance in shots (17-3) and corner kicks (7-2).

Lauren Galloway earned the win in goal for the Quakers.

The Quakers will open OAC play at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heidelberg University.
