No. 2 Mount Union defeats Wilmington College 63-6

WILMINGTON — Division III powerhouse Mount Union generated more than 500 yards of offense Saturday in a 63-6 win over Wilmington College Saturday at Townsend Field.

Ranked No. 2 in Division III, the Purple Raiders (5-0) eclipsed the 60-point barrier for the second time this season. With the loss, Wilmington falls to 1-4 on the season. In Ohio Athletic Conference action, Wilmington falls to 1-3.

Mount Union dominated the tempo of the game, with both a strong passing game and running attack generating nine touchdowns. Purple Raiders’ quarterback D’Angelo Fulford had five touchdown passes on the day, and completed 17 of his 22 attempts to eight different receivers, and had 265 yards in the air.

His main target was Justin Hill who had seven catches (two touchdowns) for 163 yards, while Derrick Harvey had three receptions for 56 yards and a pair of TD receptions.

Wilmington’s lone touchdown came in the closing minutes of the half, when quarterback Kyle Barrett hooked up with Itika Wynn on a 31-yard score at the 1:53 mark. The point after attempt was blocked and Mount Union returned it the distance for a two-point defensive PAT score. Mount Union had a commanding lead of 42-7 at halftime.

Mount Union piled up 535 yards in total offense on 72 plays. Wilmington was able to generate just 156 yards in total offense on 52 plays.

Barrett was 13 of 26 on the day for 133 yards passing. Wynn had six receptions for 78 yards while Ace Taylor had five catches for 46 yards.

Mount Union shut down the Wilmington ground game, as the Quakers could muster just 23 yards on 25 attempts.

Wilmington returns to OAC action Saturday, hosting Marietta in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
