WILMINGTON – Jarron Cumberland’s 39-point, eight-rebound effort led Wilmington past Middletown 85-57 in the Play by Play Classic Saturday at Fred Summers Court.

Jeff Mansfield came off the Wilmington bench to score 12 points and grab six rebounds.

Jimmy Ratliff led Middletown (8-10) with 19 points. Cliff Snow joined him in double-figures with 12.

Cumberland and Ratliff won their team’s respective most valuable player honors.

Middletown was down 10-0 three minutes into the game and 35-15 with three minutes left in the first half after another 10-0 Wilmington spurt. A 13-3 flurry spanning two minutes late in the final period gave Wilmington its largest lead, 83-53.

Wilmington scored 20 points off 22 Middletown turnovers. The Hurricane only committed five turnovers. It dominated the paint 60-20.

Before the game, Wilmington announced Cumberland eclipsed the 2,000-point mark in Friday’s game versus Hillsboro.

There were two other Play by Play Classic games at Fred Summers Court Saturday. Stivers defeated Kings 57-45. Huber Heights Wayne, Ohio’s top-ranked Division I team, outlasted Massillon Jackson 65-58.
